Monday, Oct. 14  - Polish Province presentation

Our morning began with prayer led by our Polish sisters. They framed the prayer and their entire presentation in the stigmata of St Francis.

We were moved by the many ways they respond to their current reality, among them the tending to Ukrainian refugees, even bringing many women and children into their own houses.  This war brings them back to their own history of war during WWII and we could perceive their own empathy, compassion and the conviction to act for these who are being displaced.

The sisters in Mary Help of Christians also have many educational ministries, some in the church/catechesis, some with the elderly and with physical challenges, and some working with youth.  They have responded well to Laudato Si, hosting groups of children to teach them new ways to be aware of mother earth, sorting garbage, working with recycling, making art out of seemingly dead trees (birch trees of their forest that was blown down).

Our sisters also gave us the book about Sr. Adelgund, one of their sisters who was martyred during WWII as she protected young women entrusted to her care from being raped and murdered by invading soldiers.  The sisters are working towards her beatification but they are still early in the process.

We lastly had Mass in Polish and heard many Polish songs, along with being given some beautiful presents and sweets.
Dziękuję, sisters!

We were then given the afternoon off due to many of us being sick with colds and GI viruses.  Many of us slept and Sr. Pacyfika went to the pharmacy for more medications.  We were grateful for her and for the time off.

Maybe by the end of this chapter your blogger will be able to be more caught up and able to post at the end of each day....??  Patty
